One of the simple pleasures of life is sharing a meal with a large group of people is consistent, whether they be friends or family. The meals are a special treat if it is a dozen, two dozen or more people at a large dining table or nearby picnic tables, perhaps on a screened porch or under a picnic pavilion.

Cooking for a set is not the problem, imagine that a lot of first timers, it is to be, but it's different. It requires a range of skills in addition towhatever natural cooking skills you might possess.

The number one rule for cooking for a lot: Plan! Plan everything. Your culinary production will definitely be much more time consuming than cooking for your immediate family or guests to dinner. Make sure you can add a block of hours to pay the actual cooking and serving. Planning and purchasing for the big day could require several full afternoons.

Another rule is to keep hot food hot. UnlessIt's for a picnic, where most dishes are served cold, expect you will want to ensure that the food comes hot on the table (at least). Decide in advance how you're doing this.

Here's something else to consider: How much space you have for cooking? Cooking for a lot can be incredibly stressful if your kitchen is so small that you and your helper again stumble into each other. If your oven is too small, you canto reconsider, even if you work in the first place.

Among the most rewarding types of events for cooking is the family reunion. Even before the time to put the word you are looking for people to contribute their favorite family recipes. The food often tastes in the family, which makes it easier for a meal, preparing to almost everyone to enjoy. (It's always contentious souls, but the rebels against all the traditions of the family - including beloved dishes. This isFamily!)

I'm from Louisiana, where cooking for a lot is almost a performance art. There is also a place where summer usually stretches for many months, providing many opportunities for picnics and other outdoor occasions where good food is the center of attention. Being responsible for feeding a variety of mouth is something that I really enjoy. But even if it is not your forte, believe me, you can do it - and perhaps even win applause. Remember: Plan!

Whowhite? If you find turns cooking for a crowd to be something you are good and that you enjoy, you can try it for their livelihood. It is how many professional caterers got their start.
